What's the best way you've found, online? email? cold calling? going to the country and pavement pounding? |

Quite a lot depends where you want to go. In some regions, most jobs are only found in-country - others hire from abroad. Where do you want to go?
I can say that European and Canadian jobs are not normally found from abroad. You have to be there (and have the correct passports) to find anything. |

Going to the country and pavement pounding.
Works every time, for me. In fact -- now that I think about it -- I can't remember a single English school I ever applied to in person that didn't offer me a job. |

It depends on:
i) the country you are looking at (makes all the difference in the world - literally )
ii) the kind of job you are looking for (language academy, school, university)
iii) your qualifications (high school and a TEFL going up through PhD.)

_smaug, your answer is too general. For the OP's benefit and others with the same question, where have you worked (i.e., what country and if at an institute or uni) and what are your quals? |

The OP wasn't very specific, was he? But alright . . .
My credentials: 55 year-old male. (Strike one). Not particularly good-looking (Strike two). Bachelors in Education. Masters in education. Twenty years classroom experience (American public schools). TEFL certificate. A couple years TEFL experience in the Czech Republic and Vietnam.
In short: A pavement-pounding, steely-eyed TEFL professional.
But I have to be. Otherwise, I get to the part of the application process that goes, Send a recent photograph, and I never hear from them again. |

Hands down, networking has got me most of my jobs. The one I have now, I applied for when I saw the advert here on Dave's. And so far it's the best one I've ever had.
For me, online and email have worked. As for cold calling, I usually do it through email. Haven't pounded the pavement, yet. |
