Hey everyone, I've been reading this forum for a month or two now but never posted before (I'm one of those awesome people who uses the search function ) but now I'm stuck...

I have applied for a job in China, direct with a school in Shanghai and had a phone chat with the director this morning. All that has happened so far is they received my resum� (which is by no means impressive) and called me for a quick chat of about 10 minutes. On the phone at the end of the conversation he said he's going to send me the contract for my revision...

Does this mean I definitely got the job, or is that a standard procedure regardless of whether or not I am successful?

I don't think you've definitely got the job. They are somewhat interested, "sending the contract for your revision" sounds like they are willing to work with you as far as terms of the contract. It's more like a nibble. It's certainly not SOP for employers to invite revision.

China is desperate to import "native speakers" as English teachers.
It sounds like:
i) You have the right credentials (a degree and a pulse)
ii) You have the right accent (they could understand you)
iii) You have the right passport (from an anglophone country).

You get the contract and read it over.
If it is acceptable to you (no big red flags) then you sign it and begin the visa application process.

Nothing is assured until you have your visa in your passport and are on the ground ready to work.

CAVEAT:
If the answer to (i), (ii), or (iii) is NO then be very careful since you don't qualify for a "Z" visa and they will be working some "loopholes" to get you in on another class of visa (illegal but common enough) and any employer dodgy enough to do that may have other issues to deal with as well.
