|
|
Hello,
I'm planning on teaching in Taiwan, and plan on traveling to Taiwan soon to look for work. However, I prefer to find a job where the school does not make me teach kindergarten on the side, since doing so would be technically illegal. How hard is it to find teaching positions where there is no teaching kindergarten involved?
Would it be unreasonable to expect to find such a job within 1 months time (for someone who has never taught before, and recently obtained their bachelor's degree), considering that I will be staying in Taipei when I first arrive in Taiwan?
Thanks |

Finding a job in taiwan is easy, if you have a teacher's certification. with just a bachelor degree expect a cram school with all the crappyness that entails. |

There are plenty of buxibans out there that don't have kindergartens, so I would say it's not unreasonable.
My experience was that I found a job within 2 weeks of landing, and I had no previous teaching experience (That was three years ago, though). I searched for jobs through Forumosa and pounded the pavement, specifically excluding schools with kindergartens since, like you, I didn't want to work illegally.
I was staying in Taipei, but decided to also apply in nearby areas. I ended up accepting a job in Taoyuan. Not the most glamorous area, but the cost of living is lower, and it's still close enough for occasional trips to Taipei. Taiwan is not that big, so even if you're staying in Taipei, there are other areas not too far away (by train or bus) where you can look for work.
Anyway, that was my experience, so perhaps it'll encourage you. Hopefully others will chime in as well.
Good luck! |
