Hi, I was wondering if anyone can tell me what are the names of the good international schools in Shanghai that pays really well. Wall St and Web International are two that i found searching the forums. Are there any other good schools? And what are the requirements for applying (such as Tefl or Celta certificate)? |

There's a good one which I will soon be working for. www.kidcastle.com
A friend recommended it to me and it seems nice. They have a very extensive application method, so you know they're not gunna take just anybody, and their professional and friendly approach to things is, in China, refreshing. Owned and run by a foreigner, it seems like a good place. 6000-10000 a month and various locations in China and Taiwan, Shanghai included.
Hope this helps |

None of these are international schools, which run either the accredited curriculum of their "home" nation [eg Shanghai American School], or offer the IB, or both. These schools mostly cater for expat kids, with the occasional rich local.
The places you mention, and many others, offer English classes to Chinese nationals, which may or may not be good value, depending on the integrity of the owners and the quality of the foreigners they employ as teachers. The few locals I know who have attended these [not the ones you mention by the way] types of language institutes [they're not schools; schools provide a full curriculum] have felt disappointed and cheated.
Look at www.moveandstay.com/shanghai/guide_international_schools.asp
for a full list of real international schools. You'll need more than a CELTA, unfortunately. The right nationality is a start. |

Yew Chung International, Hong Kong-based, with branches in Peking and the U.S.A.; it's a kindergarten-through-middle school, as far as I know. |

Indeed, at Kid Castle the classroom has a dynamic all its own. Our language school students come to our classes only after they have been let out from a full day's schedule at their elementary schools. They are full of energy and ready to learn English. True, sometimes they require a little motivation or settling, so it is up to the teachers to engage them and hold their attention for the duration of the class |

Meggsy, for one of LA's youth and, I assume endless vigor and humor, such a task is not daunting. For us crusty old buggers, a quiet university class with the interested ones at the front, and the sleepers down the back is the way to go.
Good on you young feller; but you WILL work hard for that money. I'm familiar with your clients through our friends' children. |

So overall, would you recommend working at a Kidcastle school? The pay and working conditions seem good to me - has anyone any experience of them first hand?? |

I can't speak for others, but gingermeggs's quote (which I assume is from the school's promotional material), would put the fear of God in me. |
