Hi all,
My name is Daniel and I am a CELTA qualified English Teacher currently living and working in Berlin. My wife and I (who is an Italian Citizen) want to move on to pastures new and were thinking about the possibility of trying China, Thailand, Vietnam or Hong Kong.
I keep running into questions regarding the Visa. My wife is not a qualified English teacher and therefore would be entering a country as part of a dependent visa. In most countries I am looking at, that means she is unable to work. In some cases, it seems she is even unable to look for work. Is this the on-the-ground case or are some countries more leniant.
My wife was hoping that once I have found a job and we have moved, she could start to look for work and apply for a job as part of the dependent visa. I am getting mixed responses from people regarding this and not sure where I should turn now. Some people say she could change her Visa to a work-permit in country and other people say she would would need to leave and apply from out of country.
I am getting a bit lost and don't know where to turn...
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
thanks,
daniel |

Daniel,
I'm pretty sure there's no dependent visa issued here. I've never heard of such a thing. Your wife would just have to make visa runs every 6 months or so until she got a job w/ a work permit/residence, perhaps teaching Italian? I say 6 month, as you would get a 3 month then renew it, then get another (easier in HCMC than Hanoi, evidently). |
