Hi,
I heard that last year's teachers got the Christmas Eve and Day off. Do you know if the lecturers in the tech. colleges will get Christmas Eve and Day off this year? When will we know?
Thanks. |

We only got them off because of the National Day holiday. It was not because it was X-Mas. |

Isn't that awfully late for National Day celebration... which is in November... the Sultan's birthday?
That said, in the government schools and universities of the Gulf, Xmas will not be a holiday unless it falls on a weekend or semester break. Some employers unofficially allow people to take off if another teacher covers for them (those without kids would cover for those who did)... at one employer this was final exams for first semester and they always scheduled Arabic or Islamic Studies classes on the 25th and then pretended that they didn't notice that none of the Christian expats showed up that day. Both the 24th and 26th we all had invigilation duties

Last year, the National Day holidays were delayed and ended up being over the Christmas period. This year, they were in November.
Any Christmas breaks will be at the discretion of the individual college. |
