I volunteered in Issan in 2008 for 6 weeks and I'd like to offer this advice:

the company i used, volunthai were fantastic - one of the most worthy causes I know.

They don't charge you exobitant amounts of money because their priority is to get teachers into schools.

If you are looking for an authentic experience, check out the volunthai website - i believe they now recruit for vietnam too.
