I live in Moscow and work for a school here. I am looking to pick up some private students. Where is the best place to advertise this and get the word out. I cannot do it with my school children because the school takes a large portion of the pay.

i remember i asked the same question when i first arrived. i was told 'they will just come'. and for me they did.

my privates came through people i knew, through current students and even occasionally by school students who didn't like the school!

i didn't advertise for any privates. (or rather i did, but it didn't get me anywhere, i never even got one phone call/email).

people in general talk about the moscow expats site, but i found that to be useless - i don't think many russians have ever heard of it, let alone browsed it for teachers!

if you are good then those existing privates will recommend you to their friends/colleagues.

you just have to be patient and flexible.

you can get quasi-privates (ie. privates from schools/agencies), obviosuly the pay will be lower (1800-2200r a lesson) but better than nothing. Best not to steal clients from them though, as its worth having them there, connections - connections. Btw - if students do leave they are paranoid you teach them privately anyway! haha
