I have been offered a job at RMIT as a manager in the academic English programme. There is a new director of the programme and he is keen on employing "older' teachers who have a track record in the EFL industry.
Anyway, I am being recruited as a local hire. The main difference is they will not include a return flight in the contract.
The pay scale is the same, 4,400USD Nett per month, WP and two year RP, insurance, 4 weeks paid holiday etc etc.
Anyone have any details concerning the flight for local hires?
Thanks in advance |

I seriously doubt that RMIT would hire long term lifer teachers to be managers. It would be very unlike them to hire for management from long term EFLers from in Vietnam who have worked their way in the trenches and backpacker institutes. That seems to be the very exact opposite of their general behavior that has come to be expected of them . What RMIT does is go for young talent outside of the country , or those with new degrees . Of course those who are on the inside of the club before the recent change over in structure did not have to have MA degrees but now they extend those requirements over the other teachers who are competing for the same management and higher level educator jobs. It is a difficult club to move into or up in. RMIT management culture is very difficult to crack and many teachers who have worked there a long time have been getting frustrated and angry recently over the way that the rules about seniority are being observed. Recently all teachers of all grades and levels had to reapply for all of their jobs. Of these only about one third received their old jobs back. The ones who did not make the cut got a pay cut. RMIT is knows as having one of the most difficult office environments because of requirements to stay on site and work long hors of prep work. I am very doubtful that that have hired managers recently. |

Best of luck in the new position Biaom, I'm interested to hear what you think of RMIT when you get in.
Cheers! |
