GEPIK cuts have been made. And one of the victims is my good self.

At home people are usually advised that they shouldn't include a photograph on their CV unless they are aplying for modeling work, air hostess work etc.

But how about for ESL? Did you put a photograph on the CV or send it is a different file ( I am guessing that all forms of application are done online now)?

BTW I am white, 33 years old and more handsome than George Clooney (according to my Korean gf Laughing )

When applying for a job in a foreign country you'll likely be asked for a scan of your passport, which contains your photo. Not usually required on a rsum.

Putting a photo on a CV is common practice in many parts of the world. If asked, I usually include it as a separate attachment.

ESL in Asia, get a professional/passport type for your resume.

If you are coming out of GEPIK, get a few (low res) pics of you in the classroom as well. Works just about as good as a certificate of employment (sometimes better).

It's standard to include a photo on a CV in many parts of the world. It can't hurt, in most cases - lookism exists and is not illegal in many countries, so why not give them the information (your appearance) in advance to avoid problems later on?

I realise that lofty principled arguments can be made that looks shouldn't be a factor, and I entirely agree, but when dealing with reality -

if they don't like your looks on your CV, it's unlikely that they will like 'em when they meet you later on either.

Ask in the particular country-specific forum and you'll know whether it's common practice there. For Japan, that's a big yes.

Yep, got my lovely completely airbrushed mug shot on my CV. Seems like the photoshop everything where we are, funny thing is that the same photo is used on my ARC and driver's license. Guess it's accepted here.

Yes in many countries it is a standard practice, in particular for local people. Chinese nationals applying for jobs in China always attach a photo to the resume. However employers in some countries that accept applications from foreign workers (in ESL), China being one, more often than not ask for a scan of your passport (which includes a photo) to assert your nationality. This kills two birds with one stone.

Maybe it won't hurt, but who knows? I live by the maxim if they don't ask for it I don't send it - just give them what they need and nothing more.

At any rate, the question was "Did you put a photograph on the CV" and in my case the answer is no, because in China it's usually not necessary.

It depends on where you are applying. In the USA, the standard practice is to toss resumes with pictures. The reason is because it can open the school district up to claims of racism, age discrimination, sex discrimination, etc... So in the USA, its a bad idea because they may just toss your resume in the trash. And if they don't do that, then it may still reflect negatively on you. The recruiter might think that you are not very bright or that you are vane. I imagine the same is true in the EU. However, in Asia or the Middle East... it probably depends on how good your picture looks.....

Nope. Standard European is to include current photo - and it's not uncommon to add age and marital status either.

Or vain, even.

In terms of Asia, I can speak for Japan. Pics are standard.
