Most likely prospects, country or otherwise, for single semester work? Don't like the idea of full year commitment. |

Very rare. It's not really worth it for an employer to get someone a visa, housing, and local orientation for less than a normal 10-12 month commitment. The exception is summer schools and a few winter camps. |

What is your nationality?
What are your qualifications?
Where would you like to go (or NOT go)? |

You might want to check out Petersen website. They`re big on summer camps. You might also check out CHRONICHLES OF A HIGHER EDUCATION, the listing service for universities in the US, but I seriously doubt they are going to have any situations that short in duration.
For short term assignments, think volunteer as in no pay, just stay. There`s the Dunham Institute in Chiapas Corzo in Chiapas. |

Flying in on your own dime, no benefits and language academy...
Taiwan, China, Thailand.
Getting a job with decent pay, benefits, visas, work permits and flights...
probably nowhere but China is at least a maybe if pay isn't a big issue.
Push it out to 10 months and the list gets longer with better pay and benefits.
Push it out to a full academic year and (since you are credentialed in the US and hold a US passport) you can find some pretty decent jobs in immersion, bilingual and/or international schools.

You might try looking just after the mid-year break. There are often--or at least sometimes--positions to fill when teachers do not return for the second semester. But what is it about a full contract that you don't like? You'll have all the disadvantages of initial culture shock without ever experiencing the advantages of beginning to know your host country and culture. |

I've seen them on the China boards. Have you checked there?
TES often has a couple of positions as well. They need teachers to fill in for those on maternity leave, or who have had to leave due to an emergency. |

I've also seen them advertised for China. They mostly offer a one way airfare, never seen one saying return.
I also know of a language school that has a six month contract. Though I don't think any airfare is refunded (again, China). |

taht would work for the OP though. He just wants a semestre job. So I assume he realises that he'd have to cover airfare. |

EDIT: I've just looked them up again, it seems they've altered the contract (for the better), they now offer an 'airfare allowance', it's not much for a six month contract, but it's better than nothing!
The language school chain was 'Aston'. I had an interview with them and they seemed genunine enough. I had emails back from current teachers who were positive about their experience. They offered me a position, however, I decided not to accept (other offers appealed to me more).
They have a variety of pay scales/hours/contract lengths, so are quite flexible. They also have a lot of locations throughout China.

A link to what options they have. I believe the main person was called, 'Karl Shine', I talked to him via skype. Seemed a nice guy from the brief conversations I had with him. |

I know two programs, but both are volunteer-based, with small, monthly stipends.
You can teach for a semester (5 months) with Chile's English Open Doors program: http://www.goteachabroad.com/hot-job/chile/2502
The country of Georgia is also running a program for TEFL volunteer teachers, where you live with a host family. |
