|
|
I had to go get a medical today in Suzhou. Cost was 992 rmb for the exam at the "travel service center". ( you know that place where all Chinese who want to travel and foreigners have to go to get the medical).
Last year I did it in Nanjing - it was about 350y. Same company.
Once before I had to do it in Suzhou - it was much less but I forgot the amount.
Anyone else know how much they have paid over the years?
(note, I only paid as the girl who met me there from the school lived close to the medical exam building and she told me she was on vacation and didn't have any $$$ to spare. The school will pay me back tomorrow.)
This seems like an outrageous expense now, whereas the 300y +/- in the past was negligible.
Does your school typically pay for the medical? |

That does seem extremely high. I think I paid about 430 last time and the school reimbursed it. Glad to hear your school will also pay.

The contracts often stipulate who pays for the medical exam, it might also say something like the school will pay the costs to obtain the visa and the medical exam is a step to obtain the visa, so it should be covered. In public schools I believe it's universally paid for by the school but in the private sector who knows, check your contract.
The price of the medical exam will vary from place to place and hospital to hospital. Some clinics only cater to foreigners and cost a bit more obviously. But don't look for logic in the pricing scheme focus on not having to pay for it yourself instead. |

450 RMB max if done at a government approved clinic for overseas residents, visitors and Chinese nationals who require the check to go overseas.
Pay anymore and you are being ripped off. |

My employers have always paid for the physicals. I work at public institutions.
Strangely, though, I have always had to pay for extra photos (the end use of which has never been explained. They weren't for the clinic. The clinic took its own weird photos). My own pictures were to passport spec, but were unacceptable to whoever wanted them. These photos were taken right after the exam and were not taken in the same building.

Last year in Guangdong province I paid 350. This year I ALSO paid 900 in Suzhou, and because of a timing issue I had no choice but to pony up. This IS the government approved clinic for overseas residents in Suzhou. I recommend anyone in Suzhou plan ahead and head out of town to get their medical check. I heard in Nanjing it was half this price. |

I recently had mine done in Hangzhou (about 40 mins from Suzhou) and it was just under 450 RMB and that included the price of the courier for delivering the paperwork to me the next day.
Sorry to hear about this apparent anomoly in prices. |

I'm guessing we went to the same place. In the New District. Kinda in a warehouse district, not far from Metro.
900 + 22 for EMS I think was the total. |

Yep, same. Unfortunately this expense came out of my pocket this time around as I was changing jobs. |

I've had a similar situation. Sometimes the clinics use the photos but usually they don't. It's likely these photos were actually used for the FEC. Somehow I always ended up paying for these also. |
