There don't seem to be very many people of this Oman board and I also see several of you hanging out on forums for other Middle East countries. So, I'm wondering how many of the posters on this board are actually in Oman these days.

Plenty of us here and we can tell you, through bitter experience, who to avoid!

A contract less than OMR 1000? you are being robbed! You need 1300 plus accommodation, decent housing, medical, flights and gratuity. Accept anything less and on your head be it, and don't post here with your complaints!

1300 plus all that? A bit optimistic. 1100 is very fair, you get to save easily 700 a month.

I am not totally sure why you posted this reply here, though.

Regarding me, you'd have to ask the MoHE when (and if) they think they will finally get around to approving my visa app to get an accurate answer to that question.

The numbers being thrown out should depend on your credentials. If you have an MA+5 or more years of good experience (ie not conversation courses with bored housewives somewhere in Asia), you should be getting at least 1200-1300 OR plus all the usual Gulf benefits. (That will still put you about $1000 a month under what you can earn in any of the other Gulf countries with similar credentials).

But, if you only have a BA+CERT+2-3 years of unrelated teaching, numbers below that are appropriate. With these credentials, the only higher pay jobs will be in Saudi Arabia.

So, is KSA a less enjoyable place to live and teach than Oman?
