Apparently some people can still access it. A PHD axed by Sharjah Colleges Business Dept wrote a letter stating some unwanted comments.

He was obviously home in South Africa after being terminated. I found the entry rather odd. What was his obsession with how awful it was that the students referred to the teachers as "sir, miss, mrs." He apparently felt that they are some sort of Colonial terms only used by the slaves to the masters... or something. I was waiting for him to tell us what they should call us. Hey You? Teacher? Our first name? They seem to me to be basic good manners in the US of an adolescent for an adult.

If only, now and then, I earned one fil/halala for everytime I was called "teacher"... Rolling Eyes

Now, in my own sandbox, I just respond, "student"...

They don't like it. Crying or Very sad

It's like the shoe is on the whole other foot! Laughing

I used to get called. "My teacher."

I'd respond, "Yes, my student."

Both of us were just fine with that.

Regards,
John

Is this really an obsession? He addressed it in two sentences out of the 20+ paragraphs in his letter. I don't see it as the focus of his message; it seems like more of a sidebar, albeit an unusual point to make. I encourage people to read his letter.

I can't relate to some of the content, e.g. "Almost every student wanted to learn" along with similar statements. At Fujairah Women's College the opposite seemed to be the case.

The HCT spitting cobra strikes again, and I'm anything but surprised. The man was fired after 8 months for no specific reason, and he seems remarkably forgiving for his mistreatment.

Oh well, back to my afternoon coffee and assorted nuts.

MEB Cool

True. Sarcasm can be fun.

But when sarcasm is abused and misused...

After as close to as many years in the ME as John, I think that I can reel it out and in as needed!

It's a thin line, tho!

Where I work the students are adults and refer to me by my first name. The students at HCT are supposed to be adults as well but yeh I don't see anything wrong with school children saying Sir and Miss/Mrs.
