Hi there,
I've got a criminal record dated March 2010, but I haven't been back home since well before that. Does anyone think this will be acceptable or will I have to get a new one?
Cheers. |

Yes, if I remember correctly it can not be over 3 months old. It does not matter if you have left. I know it is silly but that is what they want.
However, if you have been in country for 6 months a local/national Vietnamese police check will be enough and no need to get another one from your home country. |

I have a related question...
What if you've been teaching in another country (like Korea) and want to make the switch to Vietnam. What country do they want the CBC from? ...your home country or the country where you've been living recently??? |

uhhhmmm...can u flesh that out a little please?
Do you mean the original CBC that brought me overseas or a new one? A new one is pointless since I don't even live in the USA anymore- how the heck am I gonna commit crimes there? ...and GOD KNOWS how to get one from the K-government. |

The old one should be fine IF you've been living in K ever since, then you'll need a CBC from K gov. Go to your embassy/consulate and inquire about the process, they should be able to point you in the right direction.
Once you've completed that your CBC will be current.
BTW, I've heard of others who went back to their home country to get a new CBC and that was accepted here BUT I don't have any experience of it. In VN, we tend to discount here-say... |

A CBC from your own country will suffice, no matter how long you have been away.
Until the new '6 months in Vietnam' directive was allowed (not a good idea in my opinion) I was receiving an updated CBC every couple of years to keep my paperwork straight, just in case.
Yes, your home CBC will do. Issued within the last six months of course. |
