Can anyone share information about Sabis? The website says it's an international K-12 management organization, and has links to three local offices in the UAE, but each UAE link says it's down for maintenance.

I got an unsolicited email from today. They requested an updated resume and a phone call to discuss job opportunities teaching in high schools in Abu Dhabi.

There's a similar job listed here today through Teach Away. Has anyone any exeperience with either organization, or advice?

I'm looking for University work, but the pay (Teach Away's numbers) seems near the same. I'm a qualified teacher, so this could also be an option.

Have you done a search on here (Sabis and or Chouifat - same same)? There're lots of posts, not very many are positive.

If you do a search here and a google on the net, you will quickly learn that Sabis is mainly a place for entry level K-12 teachers who are desperate for that first job (or a paycheck). Then once you spend a year or two with them, you will find that other employers consider it a black mark on your CV as most Western education based schools will assume that you have picked up bad habits from their system.

If you are a certified/licensed teacher from your home country, Teach Away jobs are a much better choice, but be aware that it has been posted that the UAE is changing this massive contract re-vamping their system, so these positions could end.

For a university job, you need a related MA and 3 or more years of experience at the level.

Thanks for your replies. I admit I haven't searched, but I have to use the internet at work for the moment as I'm disconnected at home and haven't been able to solve that problem yet.

I have more time to have a look today, but it sounds like Sabis is out.

I am a US state licensed teacher, certified for English, grades 7-12. I've a B.A. English (emphasis in ESL), and a M.A. Teaching. I've the three years teaching experience. I've taught all grades including university, and even Special Ed.

I currently run a themed classroom as both teacher and administrator at a public elementary school in Taiwan, but also teach TOEFL and IELTS prep, and am an IELTS Examiner, as well as a former TOEFL Rater. I have many (pre MA) years of experience teaching ESL in Taiwan/Korea.

I know I'm not exactly what the Ph.D. ordered, but I have a rather diverse CV and I'm hoping someone will realize why that's a good thing.

I would apply to TeachAway as one option.

Personally I find university level teaching to be easier, as teenagers in the UAE can be tough to deal with in the classroom. By university, most of them have matured enough to get them in hand. Read around here and check out the options. Look at UAEU, Zayed University, American University in Sharjah, Sharjah University, and if you are feeling brave, Higher Colleges of Technology.

You may also want to look beyond the UAE and check out Sultan Qaboos University in Oman or Qatar University in Qatar.

All of them have websites and take applications through their sites. That is the way to get university level jobs in the Gulf. Avoid recruiters if you can. (Teachaway is the only one I recommend at this time as their track record is pretty good)
