This is quite embarrassing, but I will ask anyway. I have a 3rd degree retail fraud misdemeanor on my criminal record from several years ago (stole a bottle of nailpolish). Unfortunately, this incident is not representative of who I am as a person today and was just a mistake at the time it happened. I am wondering if this could hinder me from receiving any kind of work permit in Germany (goal is to teach ESL at a private or public institute)? I am a US citizen (not an EU card holder). Will I have to prove at any point that I have a completely clear criminal record? If it could cause problems, is there anything I could do such as write a letter of remorse? Thank you for reading/replying. |

Check out the above link. The Auslaenderbehoerde does ask if you have been convicted of any criminal offences, but I don't know if what you described is a criminal offence. I am guessing not, but check it out yourself. |

Thanks for that form JN. Would you happen to know where I would find out if my crime is considered to be a criminal offence in Germany? I know it is in the USA, so I think I would still have to write it on the form as it asks if I committed the crime in a country other than Germany. Danke. |
