Not sure what you mean by online school here but Meten is a chain training center that mainly deals with adult students. There are three in Suzhou, pretty much your standard training center but with better books/materials to teach than, say, Web.

They have an online ESL department or division in Shenzhen, separate from their regular branch schools. About six months ago I applied via one of the local job websites here, and was asked to come in for a demo. The starting wage for 50-minutes of online teaching was 130, but negotiable. I passed and took a high-paying full time job instead.

A couple years ago I did some online teaching for a company based out of the San Francisco Bay Area, owned by a Chinese Amerian, doing IELTS test prep, did 50-minute classes in the evenings usually 7-10pm. Made $15 per 50-minute session, deposited into my Paypal account.

One upside is that you can work out of your home, room, etc; downsides for me were the impersonal nature of talking to students via webams and the feeling of losing my free time to relax at home by taking my work home. But the extra $ is always nice.

Meten Shenzhen was planning to move their online division to a new location, which might be a sign that they're making profits and there's money to be made for folks who find more pros than cons in it.

You could probably find out more by contacting your local Meten branch. Here's the ad that ran Sept. 19, 2011:

Online ESL teachers need to meet the following requirement:

1.Native English speaker from USA,Canada,UK,Australia and New-Zealand
2.Bachelor degree.

You can teach at home,it is convenient and time saving.
Pay :130-200RMB /hour
