Hi
Im a 30 year old British national with over 5 years teaching experience, hoping to get a CELTA this summer and seeking any teaching position anywhere in Spain.
Planning to come over in September 2012, have mostly experience teaching kids 1-18 years of age in Japan. I have a preference for a job in western Spain (Badajoz, Caceres, Salamanca) and can speak basic Spanish at the moment. What are my prospects for job hunting next year? Also, how might I fare without the CELTA?
Thank you. |

Your prospects are good: September is a good time, you're from the EU and you have experience. A CELTA will improve your chances, as will heading for one of the bigger cities, well, Madrid really: don't forget that Salamanca is full of native English students who are quite happy to earn a bit of cash on the side teaching.

Thanks. How about Sevilla? Not so keen on massive cities after 5 years of Tokyo. Would rather avoid Madrid if pos. Sevilla's about the 4th largest in Spain, right? |

Madrid is not as massive as Tokyo. A fairly small city when you really look at it. I can walk most places and avoid public transportation all together. I can understand how one would want a break away from a city like Tokyo.
As far as finding a job in Seville, send out your CV to places and see what they say. Go to madridteacher dot com and click on Employment-Spain and see if there are any job offerings that interest you in Seville.
Cheers,

Possibly worth considering taking your CELTA in the city you want to be in (though keep an open mind and be prepared to move on). How about taking CELTA in Seville? You're then there, on the spot, semi-settled in, know your way about and can start looking out for opportunities even while taking CELTA?
Think IH Seville must do CELTA courses, but you'd want to check that. |
