Hi,

I have just been invited to a skype interview for a job in Italy and had a few questions.

Has anyone worked in Naples? What's it like as far as salary, accomodation etc.?

Does anyone have any experience with/heard of a school called Morgan School in Naples? I googled it but couldn't find anything.

Is it normal for schools to insist upon a picture of potential candidates?

I would really appreciate any tips/input from some of you veterans out there. Thanks in advance.

My experience of Naples is limited to a day-trip from Rome, but I loved it. Great food, great atmosphere, crazy traffic... Whether I'd want to live there full time is a different thing though. Napoletano is practically a different language, public services are hit and miss (often a miss) and certain areas are most definitely no-go. See if you can get a copy of the film "Gomorra" for more on the downside of Naples. But, it's a great, vibrant city, close to other attractions (beach etc) and very, very different from the rest of Italy. Even if you don't end up living and working there, I'd recommend visiting it.

Do you have the address of the school? At least you'd know what neighbourhood it was in. Did they give you an indication of salary?

Generally schools don't insist on photos of candidates, but some Italian employers ask for photos. Maybe it's a reflection of that, rather than them wanting to check your ethnicity / age. Sorry to say this, but racism is alive and well in Italy. As an aside, on the news last night was a piece on anti-semitism in Italy. Huge swastikas and anti-Jewish banners at football matches, revolting graffitti on the streets...

Thanks for the info TIR. The job is in a town outside Naples - Casoria. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens. Except for some historical insight from wiki...there's not much else available about the town so not sure what to think! I imagine being a small town it won't have much of a night life but I'm not too bothered about that.
