Hey all, I've got an interview with BFITS later today and if I get the position, I'll have to uproot from my place in Trang and move to Bangkok pretty quickly. As such, I figured I'd ask early: Any reasonably priced studio or one bed apartments to be found in the area? I am not clear on what part of Bangkok I'll be in as I haven't had the interview yet and on the phone they only offered that the position was "in BKK".
I was paying 4000 for a two bedroom furnished with kitchen down in Trang, and obviously I'll not find anything that nice. My only requirements would be a western toilet, the ability to install my own internet connection (no shared with the whole building ultra slow stuff) and preferably furnished with at least a mattress, but that isn't absolutely needed. My pay grade there would be 40,000 if I get the job but I'd like to keep rent cost below 6000 if possible. Anything pop to mind or do you live in a building with these offerings?
edit: also, preferably not a longstay hotel apartment either, as the electric for those is always astronomical for what you actually use, especially if they have a fridge. |

The interview went really well, the hiring director letting slip that I'm on the shortlist of two teachers for two positions, and then just coming out and saying I'm hired and it's to be determined which of the two schools I'll go to. Either way, I'll be working in the Sillom area, and ouch, I know the apartments around here are a tad pricey. Still, any heads up from anyone would be helpful. The typical websites range from about 5000 to 15000, so anything cheaper is wanted. Thank again for any responses. |

Really, 59 views and not one of you lives in Bangkok? Wow, maybe I should change my deodorant. |

After being in the Silo area for the last week, apartment price and availability will be largely dependent on what happens over the next week or so.
There may be some pretty cheap places for rent on the ground or 2nd floor after next week.
Seriously, look away from work a bit (since you will be near the BTS and MTR.
40 baht and a short commute gets you a long way out and a lot cheaper rent (spend 3000 on subway/BTS and save 6000 on rent).
As with anything, boots on the ground is the way to find anything here. If you see it on the internet you will pay 3x more than you need to.
