Hi everyone, I'm close to finishing a year of teaching in South America and I'm now interesting in teaching in Spain. The posts on this forum suggest that February/March is not a good time to arrive. However, if the lack of work over the summer is not an issue for me (I can return to my country in July and spend the summer there) then could this still be an option for me? Or is it the case that most of the jobs will have already been taken? If this is the case, then I will have to wait until September.
On a different note, do you think teachers can enjoy a higher standard of living in one of the smaller cities than in Madrid or Barcelona? I realise that wages are higher in the larger cities, but am I right in thinking that the cost of living is disproportionately higher too? Obviously I'm not expecting to get rich teaching English in Spain, but after a year of just earning enough to cover my basic living costs in South America, it would be nice to live in a city where I can actually live off the salary and have a bit of fun without dipping into my savings. Once again, I know this will be necessary in the first month or two, during which I may not definitely have work. This brings me to another question, how long does it usually take to find work in a smaller city after you have arrived in the country?
I am generally more interested in the smaller cities, as I'd like to be somewhere that is not too touristy.
I have the right passport as well before anyone asks. |

I realise that this has probably been answered before, but when I tried to use the search function, I was just taken to a blank page. This seems to be a recurrent issue for me... |
