|
|
Hi there -
I have received an 'agreement' by a recruitment agency in China setting out terms for teaching in China for one year. As such I would attend the agencies TESOL/TEFL course on arrival before being sent to a school.
I would apparently enter on an F-visa which I understand allows a 6 month stay for things such as cultural exchange purposes and during which I would apparently be teaching. The agency says it will update the visa before it runs out.
The agreement offers accomodation, monthly bills and a modest salary; plus re-imburesement of airfare on completion of stay (I have negotiated to receive half of this after 6 months on assumption I will be there for a full year).
The agency were listed in a book in which one ex-teacher was quoted as saying everything had worked out fine.
Views on this would be very much appreciated. I haven't been to China before and if it did turn turtle I guess I could have an exciting holiday at least! |

I advise you to read the stickies re: Z visas.
We have MANY tourists teaching here in China. They have lots of fun. |

I have no idea what Miles Smiles means by "they have lots of fun". An F visa is of course not a tourist visa. Though illegal, it is no problem teaching on an F visa in China, though in short order the legal experts will arrive in posts below and inform you that you could be beheaded, or perhaps suffer some slightly less drastic punishment. As Miles Smiles says, there are many posts on this subject. |

It doesn't take a "legal expert" to figure out your status in the country. No, you won't be beheaded, but a short suffering of up to 5,000 RMB fine may be imposed on you. A more drastic punishment of a deportation is optional to the local police officer who usually prefers cash instead. The bottom line is that few such FTs, if any, get really exorbitantly penalized for working on a F business visa, which serves business people and perhaps unpaid lecturers on exchange programs.
Though illegal, it is no problem driving on a red light in China. |
