So I'm in Izmir, and I've got some questions:
1. I'm in Basmane, and as it's a holiday until Wednesday, all of the dviz are closed, and I have eight lira left. Is there a place in the city I could reach for under that (by metro, presumably) where an exchange office is likely to be open? If really necessary, I know I could probably get an expensive hotel to do it, but they usually have really lousy exchange rates.
2. Are there any specific schools you'd recommend applying to? Or ones you'd recommend avoiding?
3. Are there any regions that are good to look for schools--akin to Bakırky or Şişli ın Istanbul:
4. What would you estimate the cost-of-living difference is with Istanbul? The hotel I'm at is the price of a hostel room in Istanbul, but it's on the off season and in Basmane, so that might not tell me much.
Thanks,

I'm not recommending; I'm just listing some k-12 schools in Izmir and the nearby environs:
MEF
ACI/SEV
Isikkent
Cakabey
Turk Koleji
Gelisim Koleji
Denizli Koleji
Ekin Koleji
However, this is probably not the time to hope to get a spot at a k-12 school since school started not too long ago and I don't think many teachers would quit now....wait until after the semester break in Jan/Feb.
You'll have a better shot at the language schools. Try English Time (in Konak, not extremely far from Basmane) and the like.
If you're thinking of universities then there are: Gediz, Yasar, Ege, Dokuz Eylul, Univ. of Economics.
The cost of living is cheaper than in Istanbul. The difference will vary from person to person depending on one's lifestyle and/or income. |

I totally disagree, I know of at least one school that is in need of a native speaker, perhaps you could start with a school that begins with the third letter of the alphabet. Go there, and sell yourself, you may just get a surprise! |

Also try looking at unis that start with the 7th letter of the alphabet in Cankaya. From what I've heard, there are a shortage of teachers there as well. Salary commensurate with experience, but good pay. 1 month holiday in August and Jan-February. Health insurance and paid lunch card. |

To be accurate, walk into any teaching establishment in the city at this time and you will find work, the more doors you knock on and the more you have to offer the greater your chances of success! |
