I don't know if any of you have received a contract with JETS, but this is a warning:
they wanted me to work for a highschool, it took them two months to get their act together and give me salary information, which they gave me AFTER I went to the highschool to meet, and be given the text books, and the DAY BEFORE I was to start the job. They offered me HALF of what I make PARTTIME at Nova, which I thought was a joke. When I turned it down they threatened to sue me for breech of contract (no I didn't sign a contract), and for stealing text books. Then I turned it down again, they kept calling me and emailing, with bigger salaries (as if I wanted to work for a company who threatened to sue). In the end they called me 35 times over three days, and came to my house three times in one day, I urge people to be careful with sketchy recruiters, and be aware of your rights, and if JETS approaches you, RUN AWAY!

The JET program is a government sponsored exchange program and monthly salaries are 300,000 yen a month, which is more than teachers make at NOVA.
JETS is not a company.
Are you referring to the government run program or a private dispatch company? |

Oh, I know "Jet", but this place is called JETS, a recruiting company who places teachers in Highschools, and in Companies for company classes. They advertise on gaijinpot.com |

JETS is a company look in "Jobs in Japan" and you'll see their ads once in a while.
Regardless, I wouldn't go anyhwere or do anything until I have a signed contract outlining working conditions. If a perspective employer isn't upfront with that information tell them to "get lost." |

That's a very unfortunate story. Thank you for sharing it. I hope this problem rectifies itself quickly and that you can get on with things. |

If they continue to harass you then threaten to write a letter, get it translated, and fax it to the principle of the school.
If they haven't already lost the contract that would very possibly do it.
Also as a woman them comming to your APT more than once could be construed as a sort of stalking. You could certainly threaten to report that to the police that way.
Esssentially, what I'm saying is if they continue to harass you bring out the threats.
If they leave you alone then let it go.. |

I had nowhere near such a horrible experience, but I can confirm that JETS does engage in dodgy, unprofessional hiring practices. They offer extremely low salaries for their dispatch positions. Many high schools pay around 400,000 a month to dispatch companies for a full-time teacher, and JETS initial offer is usually around half of that. Stay away! |
