hello,
This is a course I have come across and am seriously considering enrolling on. I would do the course on a online basis and complete the teaching practise in Southport.
Can anyone see any problems with the course? Will it stand up to those who have the revered CELTA?
Thanks

How many hours is it? And how many hours teaching??
Each to their own, but I think CELTA is what employers prefer, also the Trinity-Cert is up there too. Just spend the money and do the CELTA, not saying the CELTA way is the best, but it's the one employers generally want if they can afford to be a little choosy. |

Jen, what course are you asking about? It sounds as if you meant to provide a link to a specific course, but I don't see a link, or even a course name.

From their website:
Quote: |
* Teaching practice is optional and not a prerequisite to gaining your accredited TESOL certificate |
The website implies that the issue with generic/online certs is all about how long they are (at least they acknowledge that short courses are substandard).
I am familiar with several generic CELTA equivalent courses, and with the European job market, and I can assure you that the supervised teaching practice with real students is KEY to CELTA equivalency, and that most reputable employers in the European region will care if your cert did not include this. Volunteering won't substitute adequately, because the supervision and feedback is lacking.
I think that if you did this course WITH the supervised teaching practice, and if you highlighted both the time and the practicuum element on your CV, it would likely be considered equivalent to a CELTA. Without the supervised teaching, it would not. |

hello,
Thank you I would definitely do the supervised teaching practise as well as some volunteering.
This course is substantially cheaper than a CELTA so its a definitely possibility.

In the course of volunteering, if you can get some letters of recommendation from either supervisors and/or advanced students, that will also help.
Sometimes it's also possible to volunteer to assist an experienced teacher who can provide feedback - and recommendations as well. |
