Great question... not very clear, are they? Personally, at this time of year... when it is unlikely that they are doing much hiring anyway, I would snail mail it.

I was interested to see that it is a "34 month" contract, which would seem to save them from paying for your summer holidays at the end of the last year... and I wonder if it also gets them out of paying the gratuity for that last 10 month year.

These employers are getting too sneaky. Laughing Or am I being too suspicious?

Well, VS, when I interviewed with SQU at a recent TESOL Arabia job fair, the interview started with the interviewer asking me to untangle a difficult sentence (complex-compound) and then how to teach/explain it to students. I thought it was filter to reduce the pool of candidates. Since they were the only ones who did that, I thought it was a bit tricky.

But I hear they want teachers with a solid linguistic background.

SQU is interviewing now. I spoke to someone who was interviewed this week.

I also heard that they are looking for staff for January.

Very interesting... they rarely hire mid-year, but perhaps they too have had a large influx of students this year because of the Sultan's expansion of the scholarship students that I have heard about in other places.

Anyone know?

Not sure about numbers but I have also heard of at least one new start who thought she would be Oman in November but has been told the likely start will be January.

We are seeing many posters here having issues getting their visas and I wonder if the Ministry has just been overwhelmed this year? Of course, this could just be an individual problem with her paperwork... or something...

I am also planning to apply to this university very soon for either the Senior Language instructor position or the Asst. lecturer (which I am finally qualified for!)

I wasn't planning on applying until January though. I want to attend the Int'l TESOL conference in Philadelphia and try to get a face to face interview if possible. I'm looking to go to Oman in Aug/Sept. of 2012.

Should I start sending in documents now though, I wonder...

I would snail mail the documents - maybe December - noting your start date AND telling them you plan to attend TESOL and would be available for a face-to-face interview.

Thanks, VS!

I was kind of thinking along those same lines!

SQU is especially looking for Omani teachers. If you are not hearing from them it is because they have a mandate to hire the many Omani s with degrees who want to be teachers.

There are teacher trainers now employed, ( I have met several) to teach the Omani teachers who have been sitting on their degrees waiting for job openings. I guess they think they forgot how to teach or have not had enough experience doing so.
Under the new decree of the Sultanate (after the riots this last year) Omanis must be considered for employment before foreigners.

As well all the colleges here are requesting that teachers who are already here have their degrees re-certified.
