Hey all!
I just accepted my first teaching job in Sakon Nakhon! If any of you are stationed there/have any suggestions for me in regards to the area it would be much appreciated. I am a 22 year old female and very active so any adventurous excursions you know of would be helpful. I have heard it is not the most luxurious area but that is not what I am looking for anyway. I just have a few quick questions:
1-I am a big runner, but I understand the packs of wild dogs deter citizens from spending any time walking/running the streets. Is there anywhere in particular you would consider safe to run!? Pleaseee, I use it as my stress release!
2-How are the bugs around this area? I don't know whether or not to get shots for Malaria or Japanese Encephalitis. They are so expensive!
3-This has nothing to do with safety but is regarding what to wear while teaching. I dress professionally and understand that Thailand would prefer its female teachers in skirts/dresses as opposed to dress pants, but I am usually quite active with my teaching, would they frown upon me wearing tights underneath a dress?
Crossing my fingers that some of you are nearby. I am travelling over there by myself and hoping to meet some fellow adventurous teachers to travel about with. If you are feel free to send me a message!
Thanks in advance all! |

Hi there,
Sakon Nakhon is out in the sticks...nothing much there....as far as running should be no problem in the parks (there are several in the city area) but by all means DO NOT run in the streets cause the dogs will bark at you and threaten to attack you you in packs. Regarding dress wear dress formal as Thais do they have high respect for female TEFL teachers who do. As you are very young I would suggest making friends at work then you can enjoy all the adventure Thailand has to offer. I too like exercise and am very active...mostly in cycling around Thailand. Enjoy the LOS and PM me if you need any more info. or help in getting settled here. |

That is excellent news! Thank you very much EFL Educator, I appreciate your expertise. I just received an email this morning stating that I will actually be stationed in the rural community of Waritchaphum, Sakon Nakhon. I don't suppose you have ever visited it or have any information to share? |
