Interested in teaching in China.
What are some good recruiters in China?
Do any schools pay for airfare or do most just reimburse you after you arrive?
Also any quick basic advice would be much appreciated |

Re: Airfare
Most public colleges and universities reimburse for flying in and flying back home upon successful completion of the one-year contract.
BUT
Be careful of the wording of the airfare part of the contract. My goofball employer interprets the reimbursement of airfare as that the school will pay for me to return to the school if I decide to return home for the summer and then return for the fall. Considering the fact that my school compels FTs to return home during the summer (to save on electricity costs), this is a very bad deal.
One may be reimbursed for incoming airfare before the holidays, or one may have to wait until one's departure.
General advice regarding the choice of schools: if you can, find out how old the FAO/ waiban is. If he/she is under 40, or has been in the position for less than 10 years, check out another school. Inexperienced FAO's are a headache. |

I don't agree with this. All my FAOs have been under 40 and while one of them was kind of a 三八 personally she did her job well. The other ones also were reasonable to deal with. |

General advice on FAOs, if they can answer any questions you have about the job/school and get your visa documentation in order without too much delay then chances are they know what they're doing.
3/4 FAOs I've dealt with in China have been under 30 and more than competent. The other one was closer to 50 and that was the only school I've worked at that tried to cheat me at the end of the contract. Don't put too much stock in age or experience, I think a good attitude (willingness to do a decent job) in an FAO (or anyone) is more important. |
