We are working in Korea now. I have an MA in app. ling. and about 12 years of univ. teaching experience (including two years in UAE); she has BA in ed. (English teaching specialization), teacher certification in Philippines, a couple of years of teaching experience (but not at univ. level); and she is completing an MA in ed. via San Diego State University (online option).
I see her negatives as: age (only 23), and Filipina citizenship (though she has no noticeable Philippine accent). I am American by the way.
We are hoping that an employer might want to employ us as a package (they would save money on housing??). Where would our best options be? I know there are quite a few Indian/Filipina/etc. teachers in Saudi, but I have heard that there is a minimum age requirement of 25 years of age for female teachers there..........................
Your advice, please..................... |

Similar background to mine when I was in Dubai with my Malaysian-Chinese wife, who was 28 when we arrived there. If you've spent two years in the UAE, I don't know why you would need to ask. But...if you have an MA and lots of experience, you should consider only the universities or possibly some corporate/military job. In our situation, my wife had her own career and found suitable work separate from mine, in the Dubai private sector.
Good heavens, if you are American, the Asian heritage of your wife is not a "negative" even in the UAE. She is the wife of a professionally employed westerner with degrees of her own--end of story. She wouldn't face discrimination at the universities because of her race. But she will need some years of post-MA college-level teaching experience to land an interview in most cases. |
