Hi Guys,

My contract in Korea is ending in a month. Can you guys give me advice on how to get a job in the Middle East (preferably Qatar)?

1. My credentials:

Brown University 2010, History 3.8/4.0 GPA
1 Year SAT Teaching and 1 Year AP History Tutoring in US
6 Months Teaching Adult English in Seoul

2. I plan to get a CELTA (possibly in Kuwait) to help me find a job.

3. Is that sufficient to get a job somewhere in the Middle East?

No, your qualifications aren't enough for positions in the ME, and that includes Qatar. Most entry level positions require at least a masters degree or a BA plus a CELTA/equivalent and several years of experience, preferably at the tertiary level. You might qualify for a teaching spot with one of the Berlitz facilities, but the general consensus is that it's to be avoided at all costs; certainly not an employer you'd want to list on your resume/CV. However, feel free to post your questions on the General ME forum since others might have a different response.

If your current teaching situation is at the college/university level, you might consider staying there to attain more experience. Additionally, the CELTA can now be completed online (with a face-to-face teaching component), so you possibly could fit it into your schedule without leaving Korea.

I'm also looking for a job in the ME, but have a couple htings against me. My advice? Get an MA, onsite, not online. Online ones seem to limit your options.
