Here is what I have:

1 year experience Korea
Bachelor's Science
Unrelated doctorate (yes I just want to get paid to travel a bit)

I am mulling over an online 120hour TEFL/TESOL. Will that help my chances?

Do I already have enough to find a decent gig?

I looked at a lot of the postings but they are rather vague, i.e. no start dates, no pay range, no mention of qualifications.

Thanks!

Some language schools might hire you because you have a bit of experience... but they might not offer you a whole lot of perks, like a visa. You could potentially make enough to get by... but not a whole lot for savings. The bigger cities are quite expensive. Getting a TEFL certificate would be helpful. Many places don't accept an online certification, so if you're able to do one onsite, like a CELTA, that would be better. Good luck! Turkey is a lovely!

If I add a CELTA to the mix, how are my chances at making money and adding to my savings?

Instead of an online TEFL, I am considering going to vietnam to get my CELTA first.

Over time having a CELTA can help you get better jobs. And it can also move you in the direction of a DELTA which can lead to even better jobs and pay. Turkey is a great place to live, make a living, and if you're careful, save money. But it's definitely not the place to go if you want to make a ton of money and have a load in the bank.

What do you consider to be a decent gig? How much money are you looking to make per month?

Definitely get a CELTA/TESOL certification.

I'm coming from Korea, spend 5hrs/day at work, and can easily save $1,000USD/month while living comfortably, $1300 while living rather frugally. I consider this very decent for Korea.

I haven't been to nor worked in Turkey, so I'll let the wiser board members decide what decent is. But at a minimum, I'd like to save $500USD/month and daily have 6 hours or fewer in front of students. Ideally, I'd put in that time and save close to $1000US/month.

Note, that I live rather frugally, not afraid to cook/make my own food and ride a motorcycle (ie cheap transportation).

Thanks!
