I'm teaching on an business visa which expires this month. My agency will renew it for another 6 mths. I have a contract with this agency which has not fulfilled their promises.
My question might be naive but here goes. After the visa is renewed, do I have to stay with the agency? Or can I start looking around for another job.
Thanks |

Actually, many of us, including myself, believe that you should be arrested, then deported for not only doing, but admitting to working and residing in China illegally - under false pretenses. |

I don't see why you couldn't go around looking for another job, since you're not employed here legally anyway. I appreciate you making it hard for the rest of us here by being willing to break the rules (and no doubt save your agency a ton of money by doing so.) If they're not providing you what they promised, then perhaps that's the result of you choosing to do business with shady people who do illegal things, and maybe this is a good life lesson for you. |

Unlike a Z visa, (which is replaced with a Foreigners Residence Permit within 30 days of arriving in China), an F visa does not specify the name of your employer / sponsor. So, yes, you can leave your present employer without your F visa being affected. |

Loads of teachers work on F visas, and you can't really blame them - it's become so hard to get a Z visa without going back to your home country, and it gives your school so much power over you. I'm on a 'z' myself, but I'm in the minority in my city.
So, yes, renew your 'F', work for whoever you like. You're paying for it, you're under no obligation to them. |

If you can't be bothered to do your own research about it, why should we do it for you? |

Actually, many of us, including myself, think you attach way too much importance to a legal document i China. |

Is that to say "legal documents" a.k.a. the law have little importance in China or is it the right of foreigners to ignore them?
The excuse made by most of the people that work on 'F' visas (and those that recruit foreigners working on 'F' and 'L' visas) is that getting the necessary documentation to obtain legal working status is too onerous. Comparatively speaking, getting in a work permit in China is simple. Refer to the process that has to be followed in other countries and this becomes apparent. |

It appears the O/P is trying to have it both ways. If he is working in a country under false pretenses to begin with, the contract that he would like to see enforced isn't worth the paper it is written on. It appears the O/P learned an expensive lesson. |

I'm on an F visa now, I'm making great money, I'm not in trouble, I'm not going to get in trouble, I'm registered with the local police department, I'm in good standing with my employer, yes, my employer, where I go to work and get paid for what I do, cash, tax free. Any foreigner who thinks he or she is in a position to judge or condemn others with the sort of smug repartee so common in the caf status quo is a nincompoop! |

I bet 20 yuan you're the one who whines about illegal Mexicans stealing Americans' jobs back home. You're the same thing. |
