|
|
Hi all
I'm a UK citizen, currently living and teaching in Poland, and thinking of moving to Spain to teach from 2012.
Some years ago, I lost my driving licence back in England. Is it possible for a UK citizen to take a driving course and test in Spain? Could anyone give me an overview of what's involved: how many stages, how long, do I need to have lived in the country for a certain amount of time, etc?
Thanks for any help. |

It is probably in the region of about 1000 by the time you take into account applying for the driving licence, course registration, theory classes, 20 practical classes, test and any other taxes / charges they think of.
Unless you speak Spanish when you arrive it might be quite difficult. Is there any reason why you can't reapply for your licence in the UK again as that would probably be easier and cheaper? It would also be valid here or you could then simply exchange it for a Spanish licence. |

You can take your theory exam in English: apparently it's slightly easier as they only have a couple of versions so you're less likely to come across a question you can't answer, but the translation is so bad that some people think the Spanish one is easier.
Price-wise, you might be better off doing a one-week intensive in the UK.

Thanks for that.
The last time I checked, to take a test in England you have to be 'permanently' living at a specific address (utility bills etc). That's not practical for me.
I'm just trying to avoid all the mandatory theory and compulsory 20-hours behind the wheel you have to do here. Is it possible to short-cut either the Spanish theory or number of driving lessons if it's obvious you're experienced ie. used to have a licence?
Thanks again. |

When you say that you lost your driving license in England, do you mean that you had it taken away for driving offences or that you mislaid the license itself? If it's that latter, just apply for another license in the UK and you will be issued with an EU license which you can use in Spain. If you plan on becoming a resident you will need to get a paper from a traffico office to accompany the UK license. I can't remember the name of the paper, but it's valid for 5 years and costs about 10. |
