Hi,

We are seriosly considering moving to Turkey next academic year and are looking at visas etc. I have read that you need a degree to get a work visa however looking at the forms it does not indicate that it is the case. I am therefore confused. We are planning to head over there and job hunt then sort visas etc out.

Any info would be great.

Thanks,

Smile

You need both a university degree and TEFL cert in order to get a work visa in Turkey. Your school has to apply for it (you can't do it yourself) and it will only be for that school - so if you decide to change school at some point, you will need another work visa.

Your teaching qualification will be processed by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Labour. Having done this for many years, they will have seen EFL qualifications of Trinity College London, or Cambridge, or some others like Pilgrims or Berlitz and so on. Alternatively they will be familiar with teaching qualifications from other countries, often delivered by a university. If it is an EFL standard initial teaching course, it should be a minimum 1OO hours of instruction and assessment, it should have opportunity to observe teaching and give opportunity to practice teach with constructive feedback of a minimum 6 hours of that teaching. If you gain employment with a lesser qualification than this, questions must arise about your employer and I feel your chances of getting a work permit.
