|
|
Pretty much what the title says. I would really like to find something in Kanagawa that's close to Atsugi. I've applied to JET so I have to wait to see if I get an interview. I also had an interview with Heart a couple of days ago. I'm trying to keep my options open. I really don't care about pay as long as I can live on it.
Thanks for any help! |

JET only has 2 or 3 teachers in kanagawa, so you'll get nothing there. |

Thanks for the reply!
Yeah, I was afraid of that. I also requested Chubu for JET which is close. I may just go with Heart if I get in. I'm not sure how well I did on the interview. Does anyone know the chances of getting into Heart? |

Heart will employ teachers with no teaching experience so I'd say your chances are pretty good. My interview with them two years ago was a phonecall where I was asked a couple of "What would you do if...?" questions. I think I'd have had to have said some pretty stupid things ("I'd punch the student in the face!") not to have go through it. |

Well that's good news!
I think I did pretty good except for when they were talking to me in Japanese. I only have an elementary understanding. I didn't understand the first sentence so they switched back over to English.
They guy who interviewed me was really nice. Although yesterday I did something really stupid and messaged a friend on Skype, then on accident sent it to the person who interviewed me. When I realized it was to late to change anything. I said something like are 'you there and the person's name'. I hope that doesn't hurt my chances.
oh well thanks for the help! |

Heart has a pretty bad reputation. I would advise caution with them, if not outright avoiding them. |

Yeah, I've read a few reviews on them. So I've seen negative things and that they were just okay. Maybe I could work for them for a year and then get another teaching job? It is a way into the country at least and around the area I want. |

Not much out there.
I commute to Tokyo but live in Kawasaki. |

I've worked for Heart for 2 years, I'd say you should look at them as a way in to teaching in Japan.
I also read a lot of bad stuff about them before accepting the offer, but if you read up on what to expect from a dispatch position as an ALT, you shouldn't have too much trouble. I'll write a more in-depth review of them before I leave in March. |

I interviewed with them in the summer of 2010. They had me talk to someone in Japanese as well, for a good 5 mins. Was pretty intense for the crappy position. AND I mean CRAPPY. So they might have standards if they can meet their quota with semi-presentable people. |

from Gaijinpot, they by far have the worst working conditions. 200k a month, no transportation, and they lay you off in FEBRUARY!! |

If you want to be around Atsugi I think you should check Gaijinpot and see what they have. Maybe part-time work is the best you can do. |

Haha, guess I slipped through the net
To clarify for the OP, I would take a position with Heart if they are the only place that you can get for the location you want. If you have choices, then Heart on pay alone should probably be some way down the list. If you have any questions then feel free to PM me. I found that most of the information available when I was considering them was years out of date. |

Thanks for all the help everyone.
They said I should hear back from them within a month. So I'm checking my e-mail everyday. If I do get the position I think I'll probably just go with them.
I also sent Joytalk an application a couple of days ago. Haven't heard anything yet.
Thanks so much OneJoelFifty, I may just take you up on that. |
