Hi,
Ive had an interview with Aston to work at their branch in Dalian. It sounds ok but Ive read mixed reviews about them. They are all over the place to it might depend on the branch Id love to hear from anyone who has worked for this particular one, or knows anyone who is/has?
Thanks!

I think I was offered a position at that same branch... The contact person (if I remember correctly a bloke called Karl) seemed nice and genuine enough, though I only Skyped with him once.
Depending on your experience and qualifications I think you could find a better position than with Aston. |

I can recommend Dalian as a great city for expats, but can't offer any information about Aston English. I believe there are several branches of Aston scattered about the metropolis. Did you contact the one at Xian Liu? Great location!

I stopped working for Aston in September. Important things to remember about Aston is they run their business on the same business plan as McDonalds.
Big smiles, low content, everyone is kept happy.
At most they'll be paying you from 6600 to 7000 rmb a month in Dalian. I was chatting with a bloke I worked with down in Xi'an for six months and he has been telling me that they are so short of teachers in Dalian due to the 2 year requirement that they are hiring anyone who can physically stand in the classroom.
No regards for quality either.
He tells me one school has 4 or so Africans with accents so thick they can barely be understood and a couple Russians. He tells me that complaints are so rife by the parents that it is near overwhelming at times.
If you can get a visa for Dalian I suggest giving Aston a pass. They aren't going to pay you what you are worth. There are far better paying schools in Dalian. Look around some and find something you like. The dalianxpat.com site has a job board you can use to find reasonable paying positions.
Other thing to remember about the Aston recruiter team. They have quotas to meet and they are very unscrupulous in their methods. They will tell you anything you need to hear to get you to sign the contract. |

A few weeks ago someone posted about some Aston teachers in Jinan living in dorms and having a blast....and that is the type of foreign teacher this company thrives upon having: too dumb or desperate. |
