I was arrested 37 years ago and charged with possessing a small amount of marijuana; they dropped the charges, I was 18 YO, first offense, etc.

When I got my professional licenses (I have an advanced degree and work in health care) the arrest came up on the FBI record check, but since it is non-violent and would have been a misdemeanor, and I guess as well that the charges were dropped, this had no effect on my obtaining the state licenses.

So, to summarize, I haven't been arrested in 37 years, and have no convictions.

MOD EDIT

Does anyone know how this record screening is working?
Am I banned from Russian teaching?

Dear Russophile

As far as I know, you only need a criminal background check if you are applying for a 'teacher' visa proper. The idea being that if you are working with kids, you should not have any criminal record. However, if you are just working on a standard 'work' visa, then I do not think you will need to provide any such documentation re police records. I could be wrong, though, as this all changes so fast.

Also, I think the check is only for crimes committed in Russia, so a local Russian police document is all you may be asked for, strangely enough. Again, will stand corrected on that by any other poster with more knowledge.

I wouldn't worry about your nefarious past... : )

If you ever want to go for TRP though it could be a problem because FMS asks for an FBI check. If the charges were dropped, you would think it would have stopped showing up on a criminal record though. MOD EDIT In the US, I have to do an FBI check every 5 yrs to renew my license. Being a felon of sex offender would automatically disqualify you.
