Hi,

I plan to travel to Vietnam in February 2012 in order to find employment as an English teacher. I have no pre-arranged contract with a school, instead I'm hoping to land in Vietnam and apply for teaching jobs in person. I'm hoping to sign a 6 month teaching contract if possible.

I'm going to apply to the Vietnamese embassy in London for a visa. I was hoping somebody could enlighten me as to which visa I should get prior to arrival in Vietnam: 3 month holiday visa or 3 month business visa?

I'd prefer to go for the holiday visa if possible, as its far cheaper. However I've heard that legally you're not supposed to be working if on a holiday visa? Are most working teachers in Vietnam there on a holiday visa?

Any shared insight is much appreciated, cheers!

Get the holiday visa. Until you get a job, you are exactly that-a tourist. When you get a job, your school should assist you to get the type they need for you to have.
You wll not get into any trouble on a tourist visa working during its term.

I'm sure Snollygoster is right about the choice. Either way, I recommend skipping the Embassy in London as I found them a pain to get in touch with and have heard from others that they are generally useless.

Why don't you get a pre-arranged visa on arrival with one of the travel agencies? I think you can get them as cheaply as about $10 is it now?

Others have made recommended particular companies on this forum - I can't actually remember the one I used, but largely they do the same service and you should simply look for the cheapest.

Good luck Smile
