I would have thought that the answer to the question is no, because if the tourist visa expires and the residence application is refused or takes a long time to come through, then the holder will be illegal. Of course, as long as there is no reason for the residence application to be refused, the risk may be minimal, but there does seem to be an element of risk there.

Speaking personally I would not take that risk, and I would always make sure that my appointment was a week or two before the expiry of my visa. Unless there were complications such as residence being linked to a big employer (university or state) waiting for news from Y�K, for example.

First of all, your edit makes it look like I have made an untrue statement, which I did not do. The sentence starts with a hedge 'I would have thought...' , meaning I am not certain of the accuracy of what I am saying. It is rather naughty of you to edit my words in that way.

QAlso, I would like to ask you, how can you be so sure that what you say is true and would be applied consistentluy?

It is good advice to do it yourself and make sure you either know enough Turkish yourself or take a competent Turkish speaker with you.

It is also a good idea to take advice from several sources, which is why people come to daves.

I don't think anyone would be silly enough to rely entirely on something they read on a forum.

Some of what is posted is likely to be incorrect, but I do not think most is. Much is based on people's actual experiences, which often contradict what rules say officially. Rules are often applied inconsistently, and this is one of the problems that people face.
