Is tomorrow a public holiday with you all? It is here, tho' a shame that it falls on a Saturday, which isn't a working day - for me at least.
As a matter of interest, how much holiday do you get? Our entitlements are pretty generous: 25 working days, plus around 7 extra days to be taken as hours (you get your boss to give you 2 hours here, a few hours there) plus about 10 public holidays.
Anyway, hope you all have a restful day tomorrow. |

I'm finished until June 14, which is all well and good except it's an unpaid holiday (between contracts).
I get a decent amount of paid holidays--two weeks in August, about a month over Christmas, and various Japanese and American holidays throughout the term. (I work for an American university here, so we get Thanksgiving, Labor Day, etc.)

Goodness - I've never lived in a country where I got May 1 as a holiday - at least as a specific holiday.
The best job I ever had for holidays was at The American University in Cairo. We got all of the American holidays and all of the Egyptian national holidays. Plus, since it is a Muslim country, we got all the Muslim holidays - the two nice long Eids along with a few days here and there. But, many of the students were Christians, so we got all the Christian ones too. And not only that, Egyptian Christians are Eastern rite, so their Christmas is on Jan 7 instead of Dec 25 - and most years, Easter falls on different dates so we got two of those.
The students all loved it, but as a teacher it was hard to keep up the momentum.
BTW, we were paid on a twelve month contract and when we left for the summer in late May, we collected our full pay through to September when we had to be back.
Now ---- why was it I left?

One week off. A new policy came into effect several years ago, introduced with an eye on promoting domesti tourism.
But the holidays are not all free; we will have to make up lessons cancelled on Thursday and Friday.
In my case, I have to put in a Saturday morning to teach Writing to two classes, while the third class that normally is held on Monday will not have to make up. Other teachers have to work on Sunday as well since their timetable says they have class on Friday. |

Five days, and like Roger I have to make up classes starting 8 am Tuesday morning. Who said May Fourth is a symbol of liberation in China? |
