If anyone has any advice, funny stories or horror stories about job interviews, I'd love to hear them. I have a phone interview with EF soon and I'm terrified. Should I be?

What, terrified to work for EF?
I suggest writing down a list of questions and think of how you might answer them. I think if you search through the forum for "typical interview questions" you'll find examples. |

I interviewed for ECC in Osaka and had to give an impromptu grammar lesson. There were 5 or 6 potential employees in the room, and we each had to give feedback on all presentations.
Later on, I discovered that 4 of the other participants were ECC administrators. I didn't get the job, and was quite thankful for that once I saw their advertising campaigns on TV and in print. IMHO, it was a dancing monkeys with ties routine. The buffonery that went on on the televised advert was unreal. I don't know if they've changed their approach or not - this was circa 2000.

Interviewed in Seattle, Washington for a job in Japan at a conversation school. Only 2 out of 6 of us showed up, so they asked if we'd mind being interviewed in the same room by the same person. The other candidate was fresh out of college; I was 41 with no EFL experience.
The other guy floored me with two statements during the interview.
1. I can help your school with its computer system. (They neither asked for this, nor needed the help.)
2. I'll have no problems adjusting to Japan. In fact, I've even had a Japanese girlfriend!
Needless to say, he wasn't hired. I was. |
