Hello hello,

I am a yoga teacher and (was) an English teacher, I am currently based in Australia. I have read up recently to discover that China is currently experiencing a yoga 'boom' and it is not set to slow down anytime soon.

Is there any schools in China that would be interested in adding Yoga in English to their curriculum? Or any yoga studios looking to hire English speaking Yoga instructors?

I can only really speak English. I only know a few words and phrases in Chinese as I was in China and taught English for a year in 2003.

I hold a Uni degree, TEFL and have 1 years English teaching experience. In regards to Yoga I hold a level 2 yoga teacher certificate, insurance, Association membership and have been teaching Yoga for 2.5 years and practicing for 10.

Just thought I would put it out there. Anyone interested?

Thanks
Michael

I can't imagine how this would work. Plenty of yoga teachers here already. I suggest perhaps applying at a kindergarten and then asking the boss if he or she would be interested in making a yoga class for moms and tots or something like that.

I could see you maybe finding a job somewhere, but I doubt that you'd have a legal work VISA.

You may be better getting a teaching job that allows you plenty of free time and the proper VISA, and teach yoga when you're not teaching English, maybe in a place with a big expat community.

plenty of work for sports trainers. find yourself a health club or
sports center, you can be the yoga/jazzercise/pole-dance coach.
a foreign guy in lycra will be a big draw.
but a visa....?

I agree that you need a teaching job to get a visa. A uni might work well as its its low hours and evenings off.

If you want to work with English speakers then you'd be limited to a city with a large expat community. I can't see why anyone would want to go to a class where the instructor doesn't speak the same language as them. I could see the 'laowai' factor being interesting for some clubs, but you'd need to learn enough 'yoga chinese' to make it work for the clients.

Why not go to India or somewhere in latin America- a nice coastal resort as I could see the monolingualism being less of a problem for clients there?
