Here's a clip from a job ad I just read
Teachers responsibilities will include:
a teaching schedule of minimum 20 maximum 40 academic hours per week
teaching a variety of courses to adult and young learners
read: you get to spend a lot of time doing prep work for your 40 hour schedule
conducting level checks and placement interviews
in case we find you not teaching or preparing a lesson, we'll have something else for you to do
taking part in social events (presentations, seminars etc.)
to make sure you don't have your own social life?
Granted I maintain 40-50 academic hours on my schedule from September-June, but most of that is private lessons, and all my students are at roughly the same level so it significantly cuts down on my prep time, but if you were to actually do everything advertised here, including spending 40 hours per week teaching, you'd have an 80 hour per week work schedule. And how much do they pay you for all this? $1000-$1500/month. Do people actually apply for these jobs? |

Sounds just like what IH Toronto is offering, for about the same rate of pay. Probably it's the new world standard .
Does anybody ever get beyond entry-level these days? This would be one way to weed out just about everybody by the end of one academic year!! |

Oh dear, smithrn1983, that is quite the job offer.
In answer to your question, no I wouldn't apply for this job. Has disaster written all over it. Burn-out, health problems, poor recompense, and most importantly, unrealistic expectations from employer. Doubtlessly will be unsatisfied no matter what, and surprised upon reading teacher's notice of termination after four or five months.
Where'd you find this gem? |
