I'm on the verge of taking either a 6000-RMB or 8000 RMB per month job in China, or in Chongqing respectively. Neither of them offer health insurance. I'm finding very little solid stuff about what an individual plan would cost.

As a healthy person in his 20s, how much would a private insurance plan run me, such as with Pacific prime? Would it be within my budget?

From my own recent research into the subject, I have found the cost prohibitive. I do however think that offering absolutely no health/accident cover is parsimonious. My school paid just 200 yuan for a year policy in my first year which granted only paid up to 9,000 yuan, however this year they have found another for not a lot more for this year with a ceiling of 20,000y.

I would see if I could insist that some form of cover be included.

I'm a healthy person in my 20's and I find no reason to buy health insurance here. Hospitals are not that expensive and you will have to pay in cash first anyways, then get the insurance company to reimburse you (or screw you, as insurance companies have been known to do).

I was thinking more in terms of an accident. Unfortunately it can become expensive - a case I have in mind involved a fortnight in hospital, an operation and a 27,000 yuan bill at the end of it.
