|
|
I've been teaching for a few years, and have had term-time jobs at 3 different schools, plus 5 or 6 summer teaching jobs.
It's making my CV employment history very cluttered, and hard to read. I want to show i've been working continuously and have worked in varying conditions (exam based, non-exam based, syllabus, no syllabus, kids, adults, etc)
People who have worked at a lot of different schools, how do you organise your cv? |

I've been teaching both EFL and ESL for nearly 14 years now and I keep my CV to a single page. I use key words rather than sentences or phrases to describe what I've done at each place. Don't know if that would help in your case, but it works for me, at least....
I also include only 'Relevant' Education/Employment and I title it that way - so that employers know I have other education and experience, and can ask if they want! |

List them in reverse chronological order something like this (assuming each FT job was only for 1 year).
Current FT job. Year. Description.
Summer job 2010.
Previous FT job. Year. Description.
Summer job 2009.
Previous FT job. Year. Description.
Summer job 2008. |

Ditto on what the others have suggested. You could also design your CV/resume as follows to emphasize the continuity in your teachimg experience:
SUMMARY
* Native English speaker, American nationality.
* 3 years' TEFL experience with ages 16 through adult.
* Expertise in language assessment, test construction, and lesson planning.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and SMART technologies.
* Culturally aware and adaptable; recognized for ability to empower students.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE (My block formatting flopped, but you get the picture.)
09/2011 - present EFL Teacher, Nerdy Language School, City, Country
(Add one line description)
06/2011 - 08/2011 Summer English Instructor, Bozo's School of English, City, Country
(Add one line description)
10/2010 - 05/2011 ESL Teacher, Hot Shot Language Institute, City, Country
(Add one line description)
OTHER EXPERIENCE
07/2006 - 09/2009 Sales Representative, Top Buy Electronics, City, State
11/2004 - 06/2006 Delivery Driver, Deliveries-R-Us, City, State
EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION
B.A. in English, University of Whatever, City, State; graduated 05/2006
TEFL Certificate (120 hours with supervised teaching practice), AAA TEFL Academy, City, State; awarded 06/2008
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Note: Use action verbs for your short, one-line descriptions. See http://www.bc.edu/offices/careers/skills/resumes/verbs.html for a list of useful verbs. |

Just a suggestion from the Land of the Rising Sun. Put the education near the top, especially if you are new to the biz. People who review your resume will want to see whether you qualify for a visa before sifting through the other stuff. |

Good suggestion, Glenski. Dackinator, you should be able to fit everything on one page without making it look cluttered. |

I have two separate resumes:
Similar to spiral78, A one-pager, and a more... well, the Full Monty.
I offer the one-pager initially and if they are interested in the Full Meal Deal, I send it. More often than not, I get the offer with only the one-pager, unless it is a western-run school then they want the full sha-bang. |

Here's an example, http://www.timothyoday.com/files/Resume.swf
It could easily be made into one page if you didn't have the presentations and stuff the guy has on the second page. |
