Does it make any sense to try to follow up by e-mail to job postings after you've submitted everything? Or does one assume they will contact you if interested?
Thanks.

Dear Dirt Guy,
It can't hurt (as long as you don't keep sending e-mail after e-mail), but, on the other hand, the odds are very long that it'll help at all.
Regards,

Generally that is what one would assume to be proper post-interview etiquette, although I am not sure if that is seen in the same light as it is in the west. However, I am sure it would do no harm by sending up a friendly follow up email, though don't make it sound like you are desperate! |

| Don't get your hopes up. You won't find too much professional etiquette in ESL job hunting, especially in the ME. |

Thanks for the input and I sort of expected your responses.
I did follow up on Al Jazeera from whom I previously received an offer. I'd really like to hear from anyone currently working there.
