Hi everyone,
I'm Malaysian. I've got a university degree, a CELTA Pass B and 1.5 years post-CELTA teaching experience - usually enough to get a legit teaching job in Turkey.
After an interview and demo lesson at a reputable private language school, I got hired. But later, I was told they couldn't hire me because upon checking with the ministry, the ministry doesn't issue work visas to non-native English speakers.
I was wondering if there are any non-native English speakers out there who have successfully gotten a work permit in Turkey, and it would be great if you could specify your nationality too (or if you know of someone).
I also know that Singapore (and likely Malaysia) fall under a "Category B" for residence permits, so we can only get 6-month residence permit (vs 1 year) - so I'm also wondering if there are limitations for Asians.
Thanks! |

I know some Iranians who teach English at private schools. One was having a problem getting a work visa and I don't know if he got it or not. He's still teaching and the school pays him. The other person I know is working legally and has a work permit. |

Thanks Lucia. That's good to know, but the lack of other responses is an indication of something I guess. |

By non-native, I mean countries are not considered an "English speaking nation", eg UK, US, Canada, Australia etc. |
