Hey People...
Does this University of Buaimi still exist?
Do they pay on time?
1. Hard to get a decent apartment in Buraimi near UoB?
2. Possible to lease a car in Buraimi, or have to travel to larger town like
Sohar to lease one?
Anyone know of people there now?
Concrete info on UoB, please! |

Yes. it still exists. They're doing their final exams for first semester this week.
People working there are either direct hires of the uni, or are employees of ELS, a private recruiting company. Pay is always on time, however the amount you're paid depends significantly on whether you're a direct hire or work for ELS (ELS employees earn a lot less).
Flats or villas can easily be found for rent in Buraimi. It's common for Emiratis to rent properties on the Omani side of the border as it's cheaper than in the UAE. Teachers with ELS are provided with company housing, nut direct hires need to find their own accommodation.
Hope that helps. |

hey -yup, that helps!
Any chance you'd know how long it takes to get internet to an apartment in a town such as that? Wife will go crazy without internet
Also, does a car seem absolutely essential there in first month or two? And if so, have you seen dealerships or places to lease one in town? |

I know for a fact that 2nd year ESL employees at Buraimi university get paid more than the direct hires at the university (unless they hold a PHD). I can't mention salaries but the direct hires get OR100 more than a second year hire with ELS and they have to pay for rent, buy their own furniture as well as pay for their own transport to and from work out of that.
Even brand new ELS hires get exactly the same or a little more than direct hires when you calculate it because they get a free furnished apartment and a van that drives them to and from work everyday.
As far as renting a car goes you can rent cars in Buraimi on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Just be careful which agent you use as there is one man who is a complete crook.
You can also hook up to prepaid internet as soon as you arrive by buying a wireless USB stick and buying internet bundles on your sim card. It is OR1 for 1MB over 24 hours.
Hope that helps! |

This isn't clear... are you asking why direct hire teachers get paid more than recruiter hired? In that situation it would obviously be because the recruiter's pay is coming from your paycheck.
But, around the Gulf this isn't always the case. Sometimes people will accept less money because they prefer to be direct hired.

I always prefer direct hired but how recruiter hired get more than direct hired, because pay check of recruiter is also indirectly going from employee's pocket.
Again my question is there about salary range of direct hired. |

I think this must be a 'stirrer' from somewhere! Or, am I the only one on here who found it difficult to read that posting? In fact both of those postings! |

Turbster... aash has been around for some time looking for jobs - often adjunct - and I believe (she can correct me if I am wrong) that she is not a native speaker of English. Or perhaps she is one of those punching away at those little phone buttons and not proofing.

If ELS is still recruiting for U of B, stay clear. Or anyone with the first initial M. who is North American. Dodgy dodgy dodgy. |

Hey there,
I don't want to go into specifics but you get a much better deal with ELS, they pay better and provide furnished accomodation and transport.
UOB direct has recently been offering teachers the lowest salary I have ever heard of for a university in Oman which is outside of Muscat (even for MA holders). Also you get NO accomodation, NO furniture and NO transport. You have to find yourself a place, furnish it and buy a car or take a taxi...
Much easier to save if you don't have to buy furniture or pay for transport. |

In my opinin that offer is unbelievably low for a person with an MA...
Even ELS pays it's teachers more than that if you include the free furnished accommodating and transport provided.
Sharqiyah University is offering people without MA's OMR1400 at the moment.
