I know that there have been a number of posts in a similar vein, however I feel my situation is a bit different.
I have a BA in communications (writing and cultural studies major). Currently studying for a GradCert in TESOL. Both from a well regarded university. I am a dual citizen (Australian/Austrian). I HAVE A CRIMINAL RECORD. It all happened in a rather frenzied period of self-destruction, about 7 years ago. I turned my life around immediately. I served no jail time. The crimes were committed in Australia (assault related, but the record looks a lot worse than it really is).
I guess my questions are:
What are my chances of finding work teaching English on planet earth?
Could I apply for work visas under my Austrian passport (tourist visas would be no problemo in most countries)?
Would I be safe in Europe (this is my assumption as I have a clean record in Austria)?
I really want to work in Brazil? Problems?
Is there some other ingenious solution of which I haven't thought?
Should I change career paths post-haste?
Thanks in advance for any responses. |

Mexico didn't require any kind of criminal background check. I'm not sure if all of Latin America is the same but you could try posting on the Brazil forum and see. |

I'm not aware of a background check for Russia, but again if you are most keen on Brazil, ask on that forum. |
